Record Run and Relay Win Lead Oberlin Track to Big Weekend
Oberlin track and field athletes turned in an impressive weekend, with standout performances at both the high school and middle school levels highlighted by a meet record, relay victories, and strong depth across events.
High School Girls Highlights
The Oberlin High School girls team delivered one of the top performances of the meet, powered by elite sprinting, a record-breaking run, and a relay victory.
Senior Olivia Hudson led the way with a meet-record performance in the 400 meters, winning in 56.20 and establishing herself as one of the top runners at the meet. Hudson also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.40, completing a dominant day.
In the 100 meters, senior Alyssa Webb placed second with a personal-best 12.40, while Cayman Noble added a sixth-place finish with a personal best. Webb also placed fourth in the 200 meters with another PR (25.87).
Oberlin’s biggest team highlight came in the 4x200-meter relay, where the squad of Alyssa Webb, Aubrey Abeyta, Cayman Noble, and Olivia Hudson captured first place (1:41.49), showcasing speed and chemistry across all four legs. This finish also broke the MEET RECORD.
Freshman Hailey Petzak added to the sprint group’s success with a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:01.55 PB).
In distance events, Melody Cyrus and Kachina Smith competed in the 800 meters, while Phoebe Shuck led Oberlin in the 1600 meters and contributed to a seventh-place finish in the 4x800 relay.
In the field events, Cayman Noble placed fifth in the long jump, and Kachina Smith recorded a personal best in the shot put.
High School Boys Highlights
The Oberlin boys team continued to show steady progress with strong performances in distance races and relays.
In the 400 meters, Brandon Locke led Oberlin with a time of 55.29, followed by Isaac Spencer, who ran a personal-best 58.19.
Grant Abeyta paced the team in the 800 meters with an 11th-place finish (2:11.53), followed closely by Collin Boardman. The duo teamed up with Brandon Bertoni and Peter Caldwell-Kepner to place eighth in the 4x800 relay (8:36.85).
Bertoni also led Oberlin in the 1600 meters (5:11.14), with Caldwell-Kepner adding another distance effort.
Evan Lehman competed in both the shot put and discus, contributing to the team’s overall performance in the field.
Oberlin Langston Middle School Highlights
Oberlin Langston athletes added to the strong weekend with competitive performances and several personal bests across both the girls and boys teams.
Girls Highlights
The Langston girls were led by Leyla Brown and Anais Barbee in the sprint events.
Brown placed 8th in the 100 meters with a personal-best 13.96, while Faith Abeyta finished 20th (14.77 PB).
In the 200 meters, Barbee placed 9th (29.56 PB), followed by Brown in 10th (29.98 PB).
Barbee also had a strong showing in the 400 meters, finishing tied for 6th (1:07.36).
The 4x200 relay team of Faith Abeyta, Julianna Breznak, Leyla Brown, and Anais Barbee placed 6th overall (2:02.67).
Boys Highlights
The Langston boys were highlighted by a relay podium finish and strong distance performances.
Hiro Bernhardsson placed 5th in the 800 meters (2:30.18 PB) and played a key role in the team’s relays.
Levi Abeyta placed 11th in the 400 meters (1:02.26), while Channing Lopez-Morris competed in both the 400 and 800.
Mark Shuck led the sprinters with an 8th-place finish in the 200 meters (26.36 PB), while Porter Burgess added efforts in both sprint events.
The 4x200 relay team of Shuck, Elliot McGuire, Bernhardsson, and Abeyta earned 3rd place (1:46.33) and also placed 5th in the 4x400 relay (4:18.19).
In field events, Chase Phillips and Travell Anderson competed in the shot put, while Thomas Sanders led the discus group (81-05).
